Taslima's conduct in India

When Government has allowed the status of guest to Ms Taslima Nasreen she must be treated as guest and given due love, respect and honour as we Indian use to extend to our guests.

Those MPs, MLAs and Ministers (I leave other individuals who may not understand the intricacies of the state guest or Home guest) who were asking/ advising her to leave the country should be punished and made to understand that the host never advises guest to leave the home as per Indian culture where it is said "Atithi Deoo Bhawah".

Mr.Pranab Mukherjee, External Affaris Minister while giving statement in the Lok Sabha on the controversy related to Taslima said that the country has been giving shelter to Taslima for last 15 years and will continue to provide shelter to such guests in future too as per our tradition.

He further said and advised Taslima in disguise that she must refrain from any activity that may hurt the sentiments of the local people. Here I would like to know whether Taslima during last 15 years of her stay in the country has raised any controversy.

Is there any such instance which proves that her activity was hurting the sentiments of the local resident of west Bengal or the country?

And if not what was the necessity of giving her advice or to a guest who has been silently passing her time and busy in writing?

Is it because Government does not want to advise those fundamentalists of Muslim Community who are the real problem-creators?

Is it because the government does not want to take the risk of Muslim resentment and face the consequent erosion in their Muslim vote bank?

Is it because government does not want to restrain its own ruling partners like RJD or CPM who had asked Taslima to leave West Bengal or even the country? It is their won partners who questioned the action of giving her permission to stay in India. After all it is the question of the survival of the government.

It is Muslim extremists who have suddenly come out of their deep slumber and misused the movement of Mamta Banerjee against the government of West Bengal on the issue of Nadigram. Muslim extremists gave wrong direction to the Mamta’s protest day by raising controversy on Taslims’s stay in the country. It is they who had hatched a conspiracy against Taslima’s stay and they were well prepared with banners and slogans against the guest Ms Taslima. Even Mamta Banerjee was unaware that her movement would be hijacked by her so-called supporters

. It is also surprising that Mamta has so far not given statement on the violence which occurred on the day of Kolkata bund and on the issue of hijacking of her agenda by Muslim extremists.

Government does not want to annoy its own family members. Government does not want to annoy Muslim voters. This is why Mr. Pranab Mukherjee gave advice to Taslima to refrain from any activity which may hurt the sentiments of the people without giving any instance of her wrongful activity.

So far as her writing is concerned it is well known to all that due to her controversial writing only she was exiled from Bangladesh and some extremist group announced death sentence for her. Keeping all things in view our country had extended hospitality to renowned writer Taslima and granted visa to her for her stay in India. Now all of a sudden if Mr. Pranab Mukherjee advises Taslima to eschew from political activity and she should not involve her in any activity which may adversely affect India’s relation with friendly countries , it may be said as a self defense step taken by ruling government making Taslima as scapegoat for the faults of their own partners .The statement given by Mr. Mukherjee in the Parliament is nothing but another example of Muslim appeasement at the cost of India’s culture and tradition of extending warm hospitality to state guest.

At least Government should now ensure that she is not subjected to torturous task of moving from one state to other or remain in hibernation /undisclosed place. After all she is guest for us.

Government should rather investigate into the reason behind the mysterious, abrupt and violent step taken by Muslim extremists on the day when Mamta’s movement was directed against WB government on some other issue. Is there any hidden agenda of some miscreants to disrupt unshaken communal harmony of West Bengal? Are WB Naxalites working in unison with the terror groups sitting at some foreign centers like Pakistan or Bangladesh?

Giving statement by a minister in Parliament is one thing to escape bullets of opposition parties and having intelligence report on the threats to the security and safety of the country is entirely different. Government must take remedial steps to prevent recurrence of such incident in future which causes pain not only to guest but also poses in disguise a threat to domestic policy and peace.
